Take Your Pick Day

We have three stupid holidays you can choose from today …

Clean Your Refrigerator Day, America Recycles Day, National Philanthropy Day

The first two are pretty self-explanatory, and the second one is even noteworthy. We should be recycling because we need to be at this point in our lives. We’re crushing the planet with our waste and other harmful practices (way too many to list) and even I don’t recycle as much as I should, but it’s a process and my kids will be that much better than I am at it. I know this because my eldest kid is the one who made us start recycling in the first place.

Let’s focus on National Philanthropy Day instead. It seems to be a day we’re supposed to pat philanthropists on the back more than a day to be more philanthropic ourselves. I’m not sure how practical that is. We need more philanthropists, we need to find more people willing to invest in the welfare of the human race. Time, money, whatever … hell, just a little goodwill goes a long fucking way anymore.

I think we should strive to make this day about efforting towards making life better for everyone. It’s something I need to work on, which isn’t easy to admit, but as you Brownies know, I’ve long admitted to being an asshole.
